you just cant compare the 4 stroke grumble with the sound of a 2 stroke getting the crap beat out of it. and you certainly cant just ride away and do no maintainence to a four stroke.
while the two stroke still wont last long, it will last alot longer with no maintainance

thats a matter of opinion tj.
I love the deep commanding bark of a 4stroke, it reminds me of a dodge charger with a hemi running a 6 pack sitting there, just pure evil.

2ts sound cool too, but the first time I went to a pro race when the 450's lined up at the gate play time was over.

as far as maint, it depends, yz250f vs. yz125? the 250f is going to last longer, yz250f vs. yz250? probably the 250

Being an old guy I relate more to the 2strokes. Thumpers were for puttin around the desert trails or camp ground. 2smokes were for racing. The smell of castor oil and race gas is awesome. Whether its a screaming 125 or 500 two strokes just sound like performance. Sorry wr I dont see the similarity between 450s and a hemi charger sound wise. To me they sound more like a fat guy who has had too much taco bell. I think with the shake up in the management of the AMA and the addition of 2 stroke pro exhibition races at major events lately. I can see the 2 strokes making a come back. I think the best quote I've heard on this subject was that the overall expense of a 4 stroke plus the inability for the hobbyist to repair them has virtually eleminated the privateer from AMA racing. Privateer grassroots racing is what supports the AMA and sells motorcycles from all the manufactures. I personally think Yamaha is just being more open about their 2 stroke development than the others but they are all working on bringing the smokers back in one form or another.
