1979 klx250 engine rebuild

so its time to tear down my engine for inspection and repair...

parts that i know i need(this list will get longer once i dive into the engine): a clutch, slippers for the timing chain, a set of rings, a few seals, oil filter, and some sort of gasket for the exhaust header

with suggested port polish

so tomorrow, if i don't work, i think i am going to take the head off and see if i can get the valve springs loose with out killing my self

a clutch basket for my bike costs $267??????
and a full clutch $427.58???????????????
are these real numbers?

maybe a after market clutch would be better/cheaper?
i can't seem to find one

mine is gone.... it will hardly run unless i hold the slipper with a bar or something :/
hard to do when your riding lol

so, if there are ridges on the finger of my clutch and i take a file or some thing to it with even strokes all the way around is there anyway to get my clutch basket back in shape?

and can i get one made of steel so that it wouldn't wear out like that?

hey turtle,
about your clutch stuff. see if hinson or vortex makes a clutch basket for your bike. they are around that price or a lil less and will last a long time. as for clutch plates and springs i got mine for 40 bucks. thats the steel plates and the frictionplates and nice heavyduty springs. so a hinson is like 250? not positive and a clutch kit is around 42.99 after shipping. so 300 is alot better than 420 somethin lol. ill look up how much baskets are here in a bit. just my .2 cents though

ehh i cant find anything for year bike. you may have to buy OEM stuff?
