    What are non-inverted forks?

I'm confused. When I think inverted and non-inverted forks, I think maybe one has the smooth part clamped in the triple trees, and the other type has the bigger cannister that the fork tubes slide in clamped up in the triple trees. (one would have the fork seals facing up, and the other would have the seals facing down.) I was under the impression that older bikes had a different fork style, but I just got a '83 yz125 and the forks are the same as on Tigmaster's RMZ 250.

ya its true, ilooked at a bunch of pics on google of 83 yz125's and they all had the forks with the seals pointing up. i imagine that the steering stem bearings and neck length may have been the same as the newer ones allowing them to do it.

...or maybe not and I just didn't know which was which. They're standard forks.

I have always heard them referred to as upside down forks
